PLATEAU STATE INDEPENDENT ELECTORAL COMMISSION PRESENTS INSURANCE CHEQUE AND ADDITIONAL SUPPORT TO FAMILY OF LATE AD-HOC STAFF.

The Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission, PLASIEC has presented an insurance cheque and additional financial support to the family of the late Augustine Musa, an ad-hoc staff who tragically lost his life during the October 9th 2024 local government election.

The presentation ceremony, held at the PLASIEC Headquarters in Jos, was attended by key stakeholders, including representatives from the Inter-Party Advisory Council, Civil Society Organizations, and the Insurance Company responsible for the coverage.

Speaking at the event, Chairman of the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission Plangji Cishak, expressed deep sympathy for the bereaved family and offered prayers for divine comfort.

He reaffirmed the commission's commitment to the welfare and safety of election personnel through comprehensive insurance coverage noting that the life of human beings ultimately remains in God's hands.

Branch Manager of Country and City Insurance Brokers Limited, Daggwan Ngau highlighted the significance of insurance as a trust-based mechanism between organizations and insurers. He commended PLASIEC for its foresight in securing group life and accident insurance for both permanent and ad-hoc staff, describing it as a necessary step in safeguarding election workers.

Also speaking, Rev. Chris Damcher, Chairman of CSOs in Plateau State, lauded PLASIEC for this unprecedented initiative, noting that post-election compensation of this nature is rare even at the national level. He urged other states to adopt similar policies, emphasizing the role of CSOs in ensuring transparency and accountability in such matters.

In his remarks, IPAC Secretary, Aminu Hadi Muhammad, acknowledged PLASIEC's diligence in executing the insurance policy. He extended condolences to the deceased's family and commended the commission for upholding due process in handling the situation.

Expressing appreciation, the father of the late Augustine Musa, Musa Akebok, thanked PLASIEC for its support and concern, describing the gesture as a great relief to his family. He prayed for continued guidance and success for the commission in its service to the people.

In her closing remarks, PLASIEC Commissioner for Welfare and Security, Theresa Kaze, praised the chairman's commitment to ensuring the family received due compensation. She reiterated the commission's dedication to staff welfare and extended words of comfort to the grieving family.

The event reinforced PLASIEC's commitment to the safety and well-being of election personnel and set a precedent for election management bodies across Nigeria.
