PLASIEC CHAIRMAN FELICITATES WITH NIGERIANS AT CHRISTMAS, CALLS FOR COLLECTIVE RESPONSIBILITY.

The Chairman of the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC), Plangji Cishak, has extended warm Christmas greetings to the people of Plateau State and Nigerians at large, urging citizens to embrace the enduring values of love, faith, hope, and unity which the Christmas season represents.

Cishak noted that this year's celebration comes at a time when the nation continues to grapple with security challenges affecting lives and livelihoods across communities.

He expressed deep sympathy with families and communities impacted by these unfortunate incidents, calling on all citizens to remain steadfast in faith and united in purpose.

While commending the Federal and State Governments, as well as security agencies, for their ongoing efforts in addressing insecurity, the PLASIEC Chairman throws his support behind advocates for the creation of state police emphasizing the need for strengthened strategies, improved coordination, and collective civic responsibility to ensure lasting peace and safety across the country.

Cishak particularly commended the Operation Rainbow Security Outfit in the state for its recent recruitment of an additional 1450 officers.

He reaffirmed PLASIEC's commitment to conducting credible, transparent, and peaceful local government elections in 2026, noting that a secure and participatory environment is essential to deepening democracy at the grassroots.

Cishak further encouraged all eligible citizens to take advantage of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which will resume in January 2026, noting that the figure of newly registered voters recently released by INEC in Plateau State at the end of the phase one exercise recorded a poor turn out. He stressed that voter registration remains a critical foundation for inclusive governance and effective electoral participation.

The PLASIEC Chairman also extended appreciation and goodwill to all electoral stakeholders, including INEC, security agencies, political parties, civil society organisations, traditional and religious leaders, the media, and development partners, for their continued support toward strengthening Nigeria's democratic process.

He calls on citizens to use the Christmas season to spread love, not hate; compassion, not cruelty; and unity, not dissension, while wishing everyone a peaceful Christmas celebration and a hopeful New Year.
